The
morning of day one, August
24th, at
Carnival we rushed through Golborne, just before the crowds arrived,
to Dalgarno Way to meet with the youth groups - The
Winds of Change.
Ahmed, the group's head youth worker invited
us to join the group in their final preparations for their part
in the carnival float procession.
There was controlled mayhem and excitement as the young people dressed
in their costumes and applied finishing touches.
The Winds of Change were using the community centre in Dalgarno
Way as a temporary base, whilst they wait for the community centre
in Golborne to be refurbished.
As we waited for the float to arrive (decorated and organised by
the fair trade organisation Banana Link) and the sound system's
tests (provided and organised by Positive Sound Productions) the
procession began to shuffle itself into place. With a quick pep
talk from the float leader and some last minute health and safety
measures arranged, we were off to join the procession, dancing all
the way.
